Miniature medal collecting, while not as popular as the collecting the full size article has a number of strong points. Not least of which is that they tend to be a lot cheaper than the big ones. They are also as aesthetically pleasing to the ‘type collector’ (the person who wants ‘one of each’) as the larger version.

However, some of the earlier Victorian miniatures and the more obscure recent medals are quite rare, so there is still ‘the fun of the hunt’ to be enjoyed without any of the worry that you might be buying a rename or a forgery – with miniatures its a case of ‘what you see is what you get’ As far as I can determine, there is no work of reference given over exclusively to miniatures,
though the Medal Yearbook (Token Publishing) has attempted a valuation of British and Commonwealth miniatures.
